Complete Regeneration was appointed as Principal Contractor for the extensive dismantling works at the Vitafoam factory, located adjacent to the River Irk, Middleton, Manchester. The project involved the dismantling of 5 steel framed structures and the mechanical demolition of 20m steel tower, which were part covered with asbestos sheet cladding. The specialist demolition team completed the works which included the removal of hazardous asbestos containing materials under fully controlled conditions and removal of redundant pipe-work prior to dismantling and crushing of materials on site. The tower was demolished using a 24m high reach demolition rig. As the buildings were located alongside the River Irk, Complete liaised closely with the Environment Agency to agree methodology in order to mitigate contamination of the river during the demolition project.
95% of the demolition waste was recycled and subsequently diverted from landfill.
